This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on the PatientZero website, operated by [Company name] (company number [Company number]), [Registered address]. We keep them to a minimum: essential cookies keep the site secure, and analytics only run if you choose to allow them.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage, let a site save information on your device in the same way. Under UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations), we can only use cookies that are not strictly necessary if you agree to them.
Your choice
When you first visit, we ask whether you accept analytics cookies. Until you choose, and if you decline, only essential cookies are used and no analytics scripts are loaded. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page.
Declining analytics cookies does not affect how the website works. The free malware check, the onboarding wizard and the callback form all work without them.
Essential cookies
These cookies are needed for the website to work securely and cannot be switched off. They do not track you across other websites.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
PHPSESSID | PatientZero | Keeps your session while you use forms, so your submission is handled securely | Session (deleted when you close your browser) |
pz_csrf | PatientZero | Security token that protects our forms against cross-site request forgery | Session |
pz_consent | PatientZero | Remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask again on every page | 12 months |
| Turnstile | Cloudflare | Bot protection on our forms and free check; may set a short-lived cookie to confirm you are not automated traffic | Up to 1 day |
Analytics cookies (only with your consent)
If you accept analytics cookies, we load Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity. They help us understand which pages are useful and where people get stuck, for example on the wizard or the free malware check. We use Google Consent Mode, so Google tags respect your choice.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors to count visits and page views | 2 years |
_ga_<ID> | Google Analytics | Keeps track of your session | 2 years |
_clck | Microsoft Clarity | Keeps a Clarity user ID and preferences for this site | 1 year |
_clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Connects page views into a single session recording | 1 day |
CLID | Microsoft Clarity | Identifies the first time Clarity saw this browser | 1 year |
MUID | Microsoft | Identifies unique browsers visiting Microsoft services | 1 year |
Microsoft Clarity records how you interact with pages, such as clicks, taps and scrolling. Text you type into form fields is masked and not recorded. For more about how Google and Microsoft use this data, see their own privacy policies.
Local storage
We also use your browser's local storage for a few conveniences. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us.
| Item | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Wizard draft | Saves your progress through the onboarding wizard so you do not lose your answers if you leave the page. No personal details are saved before you submit | Until you submit the wizard or clear your browser storage |
| Pop-up reminder | Remembers that you have seen or dismissed our free check pop-up, so we show it no more than once every 7 days | 7 days |
Advertising cookies
We do not currently use advertising or retargeting cookies. If we introduce them, for example to measure advertising campaigns, they will only load with your consent and we will update this policy first.
How to manage or delete cookies
You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer. You can also block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop our forms from working. Most browsers explain how in their help pages, and Google provides an opt-out browser add-on for Google Analytics.
